It is a silicate mineral with a chemical formula SiO2 (silicon dioxide) and it belongs to the tectosilicate group. Agate is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. Generally, there are many varieties of Agate, which come from different places around the world and occur in a wide range of colors. Agate is derived from many different places, including Brazil, the USA, Africa, India, Uruguay, Peru and Mexico.
