STONE DETAILS

The name Anyolite derives from the word “anyole”, which means green in the Maasai language, referring to the green color of the zoisite that dominates the stone. Anyolite is the combination of green zoisite and red ruby minerals, with the main mass of this rock consisting of zoisite. The green coloration comes from the zoisite, the red from the ruby, and the black or dark green areas are due to pargasite, a mineral belonging to the amphibole group. Anyolite is a silicate mineral, characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale. Major sources include Tanzania (where it was first discovered), as well as India, Madagascar, Australia, Austria, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.
