The name of this mineral derives from the Greek word “xalaza”, which means hail, due to the fact that in ancient times many people believed that it is solidified water. Blue quartz is a kind of quartz, which contains inclusions of tourmaline, magnesio-riebeckite and crocidolite that are responsible for the blue color of the stone. It is a silicate mineral that belongs to the group of the tectosilicate minerals. It is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. Blue quartz can be found in various countries, including Brazil, the USA, Venezuela, Colombia, Italy, Spain and Madagascar.
