Amazonite Amazonite takes its name from the River Amazon, due to the wealth of green stones that were found there in the past, but it is doubtful that much green feldspar was actually found in the Amazon basin. Amazonite belongs to the group known as silicates of the Tectosilicate family, and is an example of Microclines. It is characterized by a triclinic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Amazonite can be found in different countries, including Brazil, India, the Ural mountains of Russia, and Colorado in the USA.
