Tourmaline The name Tourmaline is derived from the Sinhalese word “touramali”, which was used by Sri Lankan merchants to describe their precious stones. Tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral, which is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale. Tourmaline comes in different colours, each one has its own name. The different colours are generally referred to by their identifying colour. Tourmaline can be found in various countries, including Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tanzania, the USA and Norway.

Hematite The word Hematite comes from the Greek word “aima” which means Blood, due to the red coloration found in some varieties of Hematite. It is an iron oxide with a chemical composition of Fe₂O₃, which is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 5-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Hematite can be found in various countries, including Brazil, India, the USA, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and New Zealand.
