Chalcopyrite was named from the Greek word for “copper” and “pyrite”. It is a copper iron sulfide mineral and the most abundant copper ore mineral. It is characterized by the tetragonal crystal system and the hardness of 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale. Chalcopyrite derives mostly from the USA, Canada and Australia.
