STONE DETAILS
Goethite was named after the German poet J. W. Goethe (1749-1832). It is iron oxyhydroxide, with the chemical formula Fe(OH)O and often contains small amounts of manganese (Mn). It is characterized by an orthorhombic crystal system and it has a hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs scale. Goethite may be found in several countries, some of which are Cuba, the USA, England, Australia, Georgia and Tunisia.
