The name given to this mineral is derived from the Green plant marshmallow, due to its rich green color. Malachite is a copper mineral and it belongs to the category of carbonate minerals. It is characterized by the monoclinic crystal system and the hardness of 3,5-4 on the Mohs scale. Its color denotes the presence of copper. Malachite can be found in areas such as Congo (fibrous Malachite), Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Kazakhstan, and the Ural mountains.
