STONE DETAILS

Iolite The word’ Iolite’ has Greek roots and means Mauve stone. It belongs to the category of pyritic minerals and it is characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system. On the Mohs scale, it measures 7-7.5 hardness. Iolite can be found in various countries, including Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Tanzania and Australia.

Pyrite The word “pyrite” is taken from the Greek word “pyr” meaning Fire. That name was given to the mineral, as Pyrite was used to spark flames to light fires. As for its chemical composition, Pyrite is an Iron Sulphide, which is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Pyrite is derived mostly from Peru .
