STONE DETAILS

The name Iolite is of Greek origin, it means purple stone and was given to this rock because of the purple shades it displays. Iolite, or Cordierite, belongs to the group of silicate minerals and to the category of cyclosilicates. It is characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale. Iolite can be found in various countries, including Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Brazil, USA, India and Tanzania.
