STONE DETAILS
The name of this stone derives from the French name “Turquoise” which means Turkish, referring to the fact that it was first brought to Europe via Turkey from Mines in Iran. In Ancient Greece it was known as “Kallaitis” or “Kallais Lithos” which means “good Stone”. Turquoise is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. It is characterized by the triclinic crystal system and the hardness of 5-6 on the Mohs scale. Turquoise is derived from different places, including Iran, Egypt, Chile, Mexico and the USA.
