The name of this mineral derives from the Greek word “xalaza”, which means hail, due to the fact that in ancient times many people believed that it is solidified water. It is a silicate mineral that belongs to the group of the tectosilicate minerals. Crystal quartz is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. Crystal quartz can be found in various countries, including Brazil, the USA, Sri Lanka, India and Madagascar.
