STONE DETAILS

The name which this mineral bears, originates from the ancient Greek name of the river in Sicily, where agate was first discovered. Agate consists mainly of chalcedony and quartz and It is a silicate mineral, belonging to the tectosilicate group. Its chemical formula is silicon dioxide and it belongs to the Quartz family. Agate is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. It can be found in many countries, including Brazil, Italy, Greece, Peru and Mexico. The pink colour of the obelisk is a result of a special process.
