STONE DETAILS

Turquoise The name of this stone derives from the French name “Turquoise” which means Turkish, referring to the fact that it was first brought to Europe via Turkey from Mines in Iran (Persia). In Ancient Greece it was known as “Kallaitis” or “Kallais Lithos” which means “good Stone”. Turquoise is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. It is characterized by the triclinic crystal system and the hardness of 5-6 on the Mohs scale. Turquoise is derived mostly from India and the USA.

Crystal Quartz The name for this mineral derives from the Greek word “xalaza”, which means hail, due to the fact that in ancient times many people believed that it is solidified water. It is a silicone mineral, which crystalises in the trigonal/hexagonal system. Its hardness is measured at 7 on the Mohs scale. Crystal Quartz can be found in various countries, including Brazil, the USA, Sri Lanka, India and Madagascar.
