The Origin of the word Sodalite, derives from its chemical composition due to the presence of sodium.  It is a silicate mineral, that belongs to the tectosilicate group and it usually has a dark blue colour with white patches. Sodalite is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 5.5-6 on the Mohs scale. Sodalite is derived from various countries including India, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Portugal and the USA.
