The word Garnet, originates from the Latin word “grantum” (=Pomegranate), due to the similarity of the crystals, as well as the shape of the fruit, and the color of its kernels. Garnet is a silicate mineral, belonging to the nesosillicate group, which is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6.5- 7.5 on the Mohs scale. Garnet is derived from many different countries, including Brazil, Australia, Czech Republic, Madagascar, China, India, the USA and Sri Lanka.
