STONE DETAILS
The name Dioptase is derived from the Greek words “dia” and “optomai”, meaning “doubling” and “visible”, referring to the mineral’s two cleavage directions, which are visible inside crystals. It is a hydrous copper silicate mineral and it belongs to the category of cyclosilicates. Sometimes it can be found as inclusions within Quartz. It is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs scale. Dioptase can be found in many different parts of the world, including the USA, Chile, Argentina, Romania, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
