STONE DETAILS

This mineral was first described by Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1817, who named it “Vivianite” after John Henry Vivian the first English mineralogist, who discovered such a specimen in Cornwall. It is a hydrous iron phosphate mineral, which is colourless in its original state. However, due to gradual oxidation of iron, it turns to an intense blue colour in the air. Vivianite crystallizes in the monoclinic system and it is characterized by the hardness of 1.5-2 on the Mohs scale. It can be found in various countries including England, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Bolivia and the USA.
