Amazonite takes its name from the River Amazon, due to the fact that green stones were found there in the past, but it is doubtful that those stones were Amazonite. Amazonite is a silicate mineral, belonging to the group of the tectosilicates and it has a chemical formula of KAlSi3O8. It is characterized by the triclinic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Amazonite can be found in different countries, including Brazil, India, Australia, South Africa, the Ural Mountains of Russia, and the USA.
