Chrysocolla takes its name from the two Greek words “chryso” and “kolla”, meaning “gold” and “glue”, because it bears a strong resemblance to the substance used to solder gold in ancient times. Chrysocolla is a hydrous copper silicate mineral, often with some aluminum, which belongs to the category of phyllosilicate minerals.The composition of this mineral is usually variable and therefore a specific chemical formula cannot be defined.The presence of copper gives chrysocolla its characteristic blue-greenish color. This mineral is characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 2-4 on the Mohs scale. Chrysocolla can be found in different countries, some of which are Chile, the USA, Australia, Congo, Peru and Mexico.
