Cobaltocalcite is a variety of calcite that is a calcium carbonate mineral with the chemical formula CaCO3. Its characteristic pink colour is due to the presence of cobalt impurities in the mineral. The intensity of its colour depends on the amount of cobalt that it contains and ranges from light to vibrant pink. The mineral was first discovered in Tuscany of Italy, but important deposits of it are located in the UK, Madagascar, Czech Republic, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, Switzerland and Italy.
